For the Adizero Adios Pro Evo 3, the ambition was never to simply evolve the Evo 1 and Evo 2—two shoes that had already pushed racing performance to an unprecedented level. Instead, the goal was to revolutionize what came next: building on everything we had learned from the previous generations while challenging ourselves to rethink every element of the shoe. Leading the innovation concept, I worked closely with our cross-functional teams to push the boundaries of weight, materials, construction, and performance, with the ambition of creating the first 40mm, sub-100g racing shoe while delivering greater running economy benefits than its predecessors. We didn’t start from scratch—we brought together years of learnings from the entire Adizero racing portfolio and combined them with new materials, new approaches, and a willingness to think outside the traditional boundaries of footwear development. The material, design, and development teams all had to push their expertise further, supported by close collaboration with athlete servicing and sports marketing to bring the concept to elite athletes, while our sport science team kept scientific performance at the center of every major decision. For me, this became one of the most important projects of my career. Seeing the concept translate into real performance—and ultimately into history—was an incredible moment. At the 2026 London Marathon, Sebastian Sawe and Yomif Kejelcha became the first two athletes to officially run under two hours in the same marathon, both wearing the Evo 3, while Tigst Assefa set a new women-only marathon world record on the same day. A few months later, Yomif Kejelcha went on to break the half marathon world record in the same shoe. Knowing that the work we had done as a team contributed to these moments—and helped make humanity faster—is something I’m incredibly proud of.
